currently spending every waking moment wading through 5000 pages of ARK, doing content analysis of photos. not sleeping much either. an interesting period in life.
it is easy to look past that fact for the following reasons:
– he is so famous
– he is kind of pop instead of high (i can remember fast food restaurants with posters of his work in the 90s)
– the camera, the negative, the print gave rise to the kind of how to book that is so instrumental you overlook the knowledge about the photographer’s practice it provides
– examples: the making of 40 photographs comes nearer in that it narrates some of the steps involved instead of providing a how-to manual
– those books are not looked at by anyone other than aspiring photographers
