About

I am in the first year of my research at Aalto University, School of Art and Design (formerly Taik).  I came here because of the opportunity to do an interdisciplinary PhD, receiving support from both the technical and art schools.  This was crucial as I am interested in the intersection between photography and architecture and will research each practice through the other.  My work as an architectural photographer led me to my research question: do images create buildings?  And my first year at Taik has convinced me that a thesis relying heavily on Artistic Research is the way to answer that question.  Just what that means will be the subject of this blog.  I shall also do my utmost to document both my thoughts and the practical, mechanical procedures involved in the production of this project.

  1. So, from what I gather your idea is to answer the question on whether or not images make buildings perhaps in a similar way on how the “architectural myopia” is shaping the contemporary urban landscape?
